It only costs an average of $3000 per YEAR  to cover one teacher's salary. Even still, teachers in rural Haiti are so underpaid that most need a second job to afford the basic necessities. At Matènwa, we offer our teachers, the backbones or our education system, a salary they can depend on. We believe that just pay keeps our teachers committed to perfecting their craft and focused on our students.

Fund Teacher Salaries

How can you help?

Ask your friends! Raising just $3000 within your network means that one teacher in rural Haiti  is guaranteed income for one entire school year. That's only $250/month.  Can you and your friends commit to just ONE teacher?

1. USE SOCIAL MEDIA! (If it's your thing)

Post this graphic (on the right) and ask your friends to help you gift a certain amount towards teacher salary. We suggest $3000 to start, which guarantees at least one teacher 12 months of salary.

You can post the  caption under the graphic, modify it, or create your own!

2. KEEP YOUR FRIENDS MOTIVATED.

Post an update when you reach milestones! "First donation is in. Let's keep it going." "We're half way there" "Only $750  left to go."

3. THINK OUTSIDE OF THE SCREEN.

Use any network you have access to. Colleagues? Yoga Mates? Neighbors? Hiking Crew? People are happy to support causes they know you care about it. Spread the word!

4. ASK US FOR HELP.

We'd love to help you get a fundraiser started. Contact Jemima@matenwa.org to get it going!

SAMPLE CAPTION:

Friends, help me raise $3000 to cover one teacher’s salary for an entire school year.

Teachers are the backbone of Haiti’s education system. They should not have to work two jobs. Their salaries should be as dignified as their role in moving generations forward.

I support the Matènwa Community Learning Center because it is transforming education in rural Haiti.  Quality education can alleviate poverty and empower Haitians to build a better tomorrow.
